Andrea Coomans
I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at 23 and again at 24. Being a Thriver has meant so many things over the past 23 years. Life is definitely a gift to be enjoyed and lived each day. I was blessed to meet and marry an incredible man who recognizes my beauty inside and out. We have three handsome sons who keep us busy with their ongoing activities: biking, hiking, skiing, and tennis. As a mother and wife, I have always considered my family’s needs before my own.
A couple of years ago, I met Dr, Beth DuPree and listened as she addressed our work group. Although I had heard many health professionals speak about breast cancer, none touched me in the way that Beth did. Over the course of a week, I had the opportunity to meet with Beth, her personal trainer, and a group of survivors under Beth’s care. This meeting helped me to recognize that I needed to focus on my own wellbeing. I started working out with Beth and her team. That week was such an incredible experience that allowed me to learn so much.
Dr DuPree was not my surgeon going through my experience with breast cancer but she, as well as HCF, truly saved my life. Their belief in healing the whole person is exactly what is needed on this journey.
After this meeting, I began to exercise and eat healthier. I found an inner peace and happiness as I took care of myself. In turn, I was better able to take care of my family. During my original diagnosis, I thought if I could help at least one other woman on her journey then mine was worth it. Today, I have a full time job with Amoena and I am happy to say I have helped thousands on their journey.
One of my favorite quotes is by Mahatma Gandhi: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” HCF and Dr. Beth DuPree live this quote every day and for that, I thank you.
